ON THIS DATE: March 31, 1889 -The Eiffel Tower Officially Opened

Paris, France

Built as the entrance arch for the 1889 World’s Fair celebrating the centennial of the French Revolution, the Eiffel Tower is the second-tallest structure in France. Named after engineer Gustave Eiffel, the tower has become the most recognizable symbol of France and is often featured in movies to set the location of the story as Paris.
